| Suzanna Winter made her stage debut at Theatre in the Round Players in 1984 in Thieves' Carnival. She has since become a frequent performer in the arena, where her credits include Mary Warren in The Crucible, Eva in Kindertransport, Jennie Mae in The Diviners, and June Stanley in The Man Who Came to Dinner, among others. A familiar voice and face in Minnesota, Suzanna has performed with many area theatres, including the Great American History Theatre, Paul Bunyan Playhouse, and Ashland Productions, where her favorite roles include Maria in West Side Story, Chava in Fiddler on the Roof, Elma in Bus Stop, and Jenny in Stephen Sondheim's Company. She co-starred in the critically-acclaimed Midwest premiere of Little by Little with the Pterodactyl Theatre Company, and she joined the original cast of the long-running hit musical, How to Talk Minnesotan at the Plymouth Playhouse, produced by Troupe America. As a cabaret talent, Suzanna was featured at the Central City Theatre alongside baritone Paul Whittemore in This Moment: A Musical Celebration of Contemporary Composers. She later appeared in Summer Nights: A Concert For The Community, also produced by Central City Theatre. In Fall 2004, Suzanna performed her one-woman show, No More Mister Nice Girl, at Patrick's Cabaret, where she released her debut CD Souvenirs, produced by Greg Dahlager and House of Love Records. Her performing experience outside of Minnesota stretches from The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, WI, where she played Lucy in Snoopy! and Dana in Quilters, to La Comedia Dinner Theatre in Springboro, OH, where she played Belle in a musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol, to the Royal Swedish Opera where she played Young August in the World premiere of Bjorn Hallman's Solitar. She most recently traveled to Tahiti to sing and dance on a cruise ship touring the French Polynesian Islands. She made the big leap to the other side of table in October 2003 when she served as choreographer and assistant director of Oliver with the Heritage Theatre Company, under the direction of dear friend and mentor, Cristopher Tibbetts. She went on to make her directorial debut of Studs Terkels' Working at the Landmark Center. She joined the members of the newly-formed Blue Umbrella Productions, Windy Bowlsby, Lori Maxwell, Bart Ruf and Paul Whittemore, in their debut production, Jungle Mary Bang Bang: Music of the Sherman Brothers. The revue delighted audiences at Patrick's Cabaret, and again at the 2006 MN Fringe Festival. Her original show, Where the Girls Are: A Musical Celebration of American Women debuted at the Lowry Lab Theater in downtown Saint Paul. The revue, also produced by Blue Umbrella Productions, examined the evolution of women's rights and roles in America as reflected in the lyrics of popular music of the 20th century. Suzy directed Blue Umbrella's most recent venture, DreamBoys, in February 2009. She is currently developing a series of revues celebrating the unsung music of Broadway's most notable flops. The first Flops revue will premiere at the Minnesota Fringe Festival in August 2010. Suzanna studied Music, Drama, and Dance at Saint Olaf College in Northfield, MN and continued her training at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in her heart's hometown, New York City. She studied voice with Jill Diem and David Harris. |
